1. His Holiness The Dalai Lama. Toward a True Kinship of Faiths: How the World's Religions Can Come Together. New York: Doubleday Religion, 2010. Print.

This book, written by the Dalai Lama has the goal to help people see the similarities between their own religion and the other religions of the world. It encourages that we take a compassionate view on all people whether they be of a different faith or no faith at all. This book will help me in my studies and my preparation for this field study in two ways. First, it we help me to have a compassionate view of the different Indian and Tibetan religions I encounter while in India, and second, it will help me to understand the attitude of Tibetans toward other religions (or at least the attitude the Dalai Lama is teaching them to have).

2. Tong-Len Charitable Trust: Registered Charity, India, McLeod Ganj, Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh. Web. 26 Jan. 2011. <http://www.tong-len.org/index.php>.

The Tong-Len foundation is a charity set up by Tibetan monks "who wanted to give something back to the local Indian community who have welcomed and supported them during their time in exile." Although this is not an article, it will be a wonderful website to explore and a group I will want to get in touch with because it is exactly the kind of thing I am looking for with my project.

3. Dharmananda, Subhuti.” From Tibet to India: History of the Attempted Destruction of Tibetan Culture in Tibet and the Efforts at Preservation of Tibetan Culture in Exile.” Itmonline. May 2000. Web. 27 Oct. 2010. <http://www.itmonline.org/arts/drepadd.htm>.

This article gives a short history of Tibet's exile to India. It also gives insight to India's government and people's attitude toward the Tibetan refugees and some political reasons why they were allowed to reside in India. Although my project will not focus on the political relationship between Indians and Tibetans, it is still a part of the relationship and important to understand. This article will also help me to see India's point of view over time as Tibetans came in to India.

4.Lakshmi, Rama. "For India, Tibet Poses some Delicate Issues." Washington Post. 2 April 2008. Web. 28 Jan 2011. <http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/04/01/AR2008040102861.html>

This article addresses some of India's worries with the Tibetan refugees, especially the worry that Tibetan's will hurt their relationship with China. This, I'm sure, is a ongoing problem because of many Tibetans' attitudes toward China. It seems that India wants to help Tibet, but that they want to do it quietly, without Tibetan's voicing their opinions too loudly.

Just recently, Indian police found a whole bunch of money in one of Dharamsala's monasteries. The leader of the monastery claims that all the money was gained honestly, but there is suspicion from Indian official because the amount is so great. This is an example of a current conflict going on between Tibetan's an Indians, and shows that there isn't complete trust between the two.

10. Lama, The Dalai. "The World of Tibetan Buddhism: An Overview of its Philosophy and Practice". New York : Wisdom Publications. 2005.

I figure this is probably the best source for learning about and understanding Tibetan Buddhism. I would like to learn about Tibetan Buddhism not only to understand the people and the culture better, but also to examine its similarities and differences with Hinduism and how those similarities and differences affect the relationships between Tibetans and Indians in Mcleod Ganj.

11. Shattuck, Cybelle. "Hinduism". London : Routeledge. 1999.

This is the same idea as the book above, only with Hinduism. I want to understand the hindu religion better and how it affects Indians' relationships with Tibetans.

12. Tibetan Centre for Conflict Resolution. Web. 7 Feb 2011. <http://www.tccr.org/>

This center appears to be mainly for resolving conflicts between Tibetans (not Tibetans and non-Tibetans). But it could show some good insight to how Tibetans believe conflicts should be resolved. The home page states: ""As long as there is human society, there will always be conflicts. I always say that if we do not want conflicts at all we have to make the entire humanity stupid or dull, and then there will be no problems at all." Therefore conflicts are an inevitable part of any change and potential development. Conflicts can lead to hostility and stagnation or they can lead to social progress and better understanding. It depends entirely on how people manage conflicts."

13. Interview with Prashant Varma. "Indians "Responsible" for Tibetan Suffering." Web. 25 feb 2011. http://www.friendsoftibet.org/articles/varma.html.

This is an interview with an Indian activist who helped set up a support group for Tibetan refugees. The interview shows his love and appreciation for the Tibetan people and his sincere desire to help them.

14. Friends of Tibet website. Web. 25 Feb 2011. http://friendsoftibet.org/.

This is much like the Tong-Len foundation, except in the opposite direction. These are Indians helping Tibetans. It is great to see that both communities have set up organizations to help one another.
